I have been watching the show Tidying up by Marie Kondo on Netflix and it is a great place to start. It makes you rethink your possessions.
We spend a lifetime collecting things that do not bring us joy or happiness. But quite often all these things bring us debt, guilt and stress.
However, surrounding yourself with things that make you happy brings a connection, belonging, calm and peace of mind.
Here are twenty ways to love your home:
Choose 10 things to give away, that you no longer need.
Rearrange your furniture
Add a plant or flowers, love Westcoast Gardens for ideas.
Really clean a room, windows, baseboards, light fixtures etc.
Change up your light fixtures or try swapping them up from room to room.
Privacy, do you need new blinds or drapery to make it cozy.
Purchase good quality sheets, my favourites are Gluckstein at the Hudson’s Bay.
Check out your local thrift stores for great finds.
Add art or change up what you have.
Put that collection on display. I have milk glass white vases that were my grandmothers.
Invite people over, for dessert, wine or order in.
Slow down, enjoy a cup of tea in your living room.
Make decisions, 90% of clutter is a result of delayed decisions.
Use a diffuser or candles. Scent is so important in making you feel relaxed.
Get yourself a good book and set aside some you time.
Add new cushions to your bed and or sofa.
Look for inspiration photos of your dream home and pick out things you could add today.
Think about ways to do up your spring planters at your front door.
Get organized, go throw drawers and your clothes.
Fix those things that have been driving you nuts. Or hire a handy man to do it!
When we get our home in order it empowers us in every other part of our lives and this brings us more happiness and peace of mind.
